Ngandam advocates creation of Horticulture Marketing Board
ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The horticulture produce needs an effective marketing channel which is possible only if a separate Horticulture Marketing Board is established, said state Horticulture Minister Honchung Ngandam in an interactive meeting with departmental officers and officials here today.
He requested the officers, especially the DHOs to prepare schemes with right perspective and submit the projects to the government for consideration. However, he cautioned that the schemes should be implemented with a “People First” motto, as envisaged by present government.
The fund allocation to the department from the State Plan is very meagre considering the importance of horticulture sector, he observed and assured that he would pursue the matter with the Chief Minister for more fund allocations so that the Horticulture can be made a vibrant sector for rural economic uplift.
Regarding transfer and posting of the staffs of the department, he said that he would consider the matter with utmost merit and assured that no injustice will be done to any one and no undue pressure will be entertained.
“Time has come for department to do some new things, whether big or small, for our poor farmers as Horticulture is a sector which can give maximum benefit to the rural poor people”, he said and requested the officers of the department to work dedicatedly and contribute to the development of the state and the country as a whole. “Whether a politician or an officer, our duties are always for the public interest and with that thing in mind, the department should move forward to bring in development for the state and the nation,” he reminded.

The Director of Horticulture, Lomdak Tago, while welcoming the minster, said that the department has a big responsibility to shoulder, but lamented that the fund received from the state plan is too meagre to formulate any meaningful developmental scheme. He assured the Minister that the officers of the department will render the service to the farmers with renewed vigour and sincerity under his able leadership. Heavenly prices and roads of Capital of Arunachal
Tongam Rina
The typical arm chair journalist that she is, yours truly dreads going out. Two reasons add to it. One is the rising price of essential commodities and other is the congested roads. Added to the congested road is the garbage, which makes Capital Region looks like an extended trash can.
Departments have inundated the citizens with notices after notices on these issues, forgetting the fact that Arunachalees have a not so credible record of ever translating those in papers into reality. They just make good reading.
Now when the department cannot deliver on its own, it is for the citizens to ensure that it happens.
However, we love our reputation of being nonchalant and would rather not do anything to bring any blemish.
Let us take an instance of the garbage management in the Capital Region. The Department of Urban Development trucks dutifully pick up the dirt from designated garbage areas. However, by the time, it finishes its rounds, dirt again pile up. This time, we have no one to blame but us!
Anyways, as long as our rooms are clean how does it matter, whether other parts of the house stinks! We can live with it.
We will continue to hurl the waste from our windows while ensuring that it misses the target! Poor trashcans!
For no reason, Jairam Ramesh, Minister with Foot in Mouth said India could win a Nobel Prize for Filth. Capital town of Arunachal could send in its nomination.
Even the road, which Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu takes everyday is not spared. One would have wanted that at least he be spared from that dreadful sight and smell.
These days, when you are late, you can always blame it to the traffic jamming. After the elections, the numbers of vehicles have risen, though this claim is not substantiated with official record. Lives are lost and some live with the scar of a lifetime. We continue to live with it until someone close is a victim.
Dependent that we are, we need someone to remind us that it unsafe to drive rash and that we need helmets. Dependency syndrome hardly ever changes.
Going to vegetable market is another nightmare. This time, it is not the dirt that is scary. Prices! Wonder whether a daily wage earner had a taste of tomato or onion and potatoes, off late. Tomato is Rs 60 a KG while onion is cool Rs 40. That is as much a daily wage labourer earns in a day.
Why is district administration tight lipped? Maybe the Vegetable lobby in Capital is too strong!!
The prices, once it enter Arunachal multiples itself because there are no mechanism to check it. To top it all the prices are not uniform. Maybe it does not pinch the right people but it does to ordinary citizens.
But was not the proceedings in parliament stalled over the issue of price rise! Maybe our esteemed 60 could take some lessons from them.
Maybe yours truly would ask a salary hike from the management to run the kitchen to ensure that plain tomato salad is part of her regular diet.
